Purple Sprouting Broccoli with Sesame and Chili Recipe

An ideal side dish that can be served as the main meal perfect with steamed rice

This side dish is a great extra with oriental dishes but is also delicious served alone with steamed rice.

Ingredients

350 g purple sprouting broccoli

For the dressing:
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 level teaspoon sesame seeds
1 teaspoon Thai fish sauce
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 small red chili, deseeded and finely chopped
1 tablespoon Japanese soy sauce
Salt

Recipe Instructions

Prepare the broccoli.
Cut the broccoli into even-sized pieces and place in a saucepan. Pour in a little boiling water and add salt. Over a medium heat, cook covered for 4 minutes.

Toast the sesame seeds.
Pre-heat a small solid frying pan over a medium heat. No oil is used. Add the sesame seeds and continue to toss them until they are golden brown. They will splutter and pop and then turn golden. Remove them from the pan and place them into a serving bowl.

Make the dressing.
Add the rest of the ingredients to the sesame seeds and mix together well.

Serve.
Place the broccoli into a warm serving bowl and drizzle with the dressing. Toss together and serve immediately.
